Hello! I'll be traveling to Dublin next summer with group of 4 from New Mexico. We will not rent a car while in Dublin. We want to walk, bus and bike around town. Anyone have info or experience using bike share? Thank You!

You can use the public Dublin bikes while you are visiting. You just need to register your information and they are free to use for the first 30 minutes, with a small charge after that. It's a great way to see Dublin! You will find information here:

You can also join tours like Dublin City Bike Tours who are really great and super professional and friendly:

I hope you have a wonderful time!

Hi, Nancy!

Delighted to have you here.

What a fantastic way to explore the beautiful city of Dublin!  Will this be your first time visiting the Emerald Isle?

Huge thanks to Áine for sharing some excellent, helpful information.  Hopefully, some of the tour suggestions may interest you also. During your trip, you may also like to check out some of Dublin's Top Attractions.  How are your plans coming together?

All the best,

Colin

Thanks for the prompt reply. Some cities have more riders than bikes, and a wait for a returned bike. Has this been a reported problem?
After Dublin we will rent a car for a loop tour of island. We want to spend first day in Wicklow mountains hiking and wandering. Is lightening a concern? Lastly, is it possible to have a day trip to Skellig Michael from Killarney, how many hours should we expect on the road?
So excited!

There really isn't an issue with the availability of bikes, it's a brilliant resource, really well serviced and an integral part of the city transport infrastructure, so you will have no problem getting bikes.

No issues with lightening in Wicklow, our climate is very temperate and storms are rare.

Yes, it's possible to have a day trip to Skelligs from Killarney but try to book in advance as this is popular and there are limited places available. IStaying in Portmagee is an option for you and it's wonderful there, I would recommend that if you could. The "Dark Sky" reserve in Valentia is close by too. The Moorings is a lovely place to stay and have great traditional entertainment in the evenings, and fresh seafood in the bar!

Enjoy!

Some more great information from Áine. It would take about an hour and a half to drive from Kilkenny to Portmagee for the ferries to Skellig Michael.

We have another community forum post regarding Skellig Michael, which has a lot of useful information for you to have a look at. Again, I would echo the comments on booking ahead, as the schedule for landing on the Islands is very restricted.

There are plenty of other areas to discover down along the Wild Atlantic Way. Have you plans to visit anywhere else during your time with us?
