The tradition of "afternoon tea" is said to have first come to fruition in the 1660's but became more of a normalised concept in the mid 9th century amongst the upper classes of society. Today, it has become a fashionable way for friends to come together and socialise. So grab the girls and escape the bustle of the city streets with these suggestions for afternoon tea in Belfast

Titanic Belfast a truly unique place to enjoy afternoon tea. Be transported back in time as you sit by the replica famous staircase, nibbling on delicious finger sandwiches and mouthwatering sweet treats! Or, if you're really letting your hair down, add a glass of bubbling champagne or prosecco to your menu.

Inspired by classical French café bars and patisseries, Miel et Moi in Belfast is renowned for its handmade pastries and chic interior design. Soak up the sunshine on one of their soft cushioned deck chairs and indulge in pastel-coloured cakes and steaming fresh tea.

The Merchant Hotel in Belfast city centre doesn't do elegance by halves! This five-star hotel offers afternoon tea beneath the sparkling chandeliers and golden vaults of The Great Room Restaurant. For those who enjoy the finer things in life, the Krug Afternoon Tea package promises to be an experience of unmatched grandeur, complete with a bottle of the finest French Champagne and Royal Beluga Caviar.

On the other hand, Maryville House Boutique Bed and Breakfast is sure to make you feel right at home. This beautifully decorated Victorian house supplies an array of colour and delicious bite-sized treats packed onto three tiers of foodie heaven. Soak up the aromas of their freshly brewed coffees and teas while basking in the relaxed atmosphere of this period house. You will definitely lose track of time chatting over this dainty china.

So, whether it's a birthday treat, a regular catch-up or just something out of the ordinary, afternoon tea in Belfast is the ideal way to get together with your nearest and dearest.

Do any other community members have any suggestions for afternoon tea?

All of the above ideas are excellent, for novelty, the Titanic Belfast Afternoon Tea is a great idea as it is served at the foot of 'that staircase' made famous in the movie.
Hastings Culloden Hotel is very elegant too, located just outside the hustle and bustle of the city but easily reached by train or car. It's a 5 star former Archbishops Palace and overlooks Belfast Lough.
Enjoy !

As there are more and more vegan high tea options around the island, I'd love to know where I can celebrate an Irish high tea this International Afternoon Tea week! 🍰☕
  • The Shelbourne - This world-famous hotel is also known for its fine dining, and they offer a luxurious afternoon tea menu. A great way to make your trip to Dublin even more special.
  • The Morrison - Because this four-star hotel is located in the heart of Dublin, it's the perfect place to stop for an Afternoon Tea after exploring the highlights. Their vegan menu looks amazing!
  • The Westbury - Within walking distance of St. Stephen's Green and Trinity College, I can only amazing how luxurious the Afternoon Tea at this five-star hotel must be.
Have you ever enjoyed an Afternoon Tea in Dublin or elsewhere on the island? I'd love to hear more about your experiences and recommendations! 😊
