Get right down to the foundations of the city’s culture and history with a stop by the famous City Walls
. Built during the 17th century, today you can walk the length of these remarkable defences and take in the panoramic views of Derry-Londonderry. Along your stroll, notice the fascinating collection of cannons dotted along the 1.5km route – the Roaring Meg is a particular favourite! Best of all, it’s free!
Can’t get enough of the views? Then head to the Tower Museum
. Explore the fascinating exhibitions on the history of the city and the famous shipwreck La Trinidad Valencera, which capsized off the coast of Ireland in 1588. Don’t miss the panoramic vistas of the River Foyle and the surrounding city from the top of the museum, too.
Looking for a cheap way to get around? Try walking! Derry~Londonderry is easy to get about on foot, and it’s a great way to discover city hubs and hotspots. If walking isn’t your style, get a multi-journey card from Foyle Metro
