Galway is a vibrant city with a quirky edge and an atmosphere unlike any other. And the best part is, you can experience it all without breaking the bank!

Take a stroll down Shop Street in the heart of the city and be entertained along every step of the way. You’ll find an array of talented musicians busking on these famous cobblestones as well as traditional Irish dancing performances and magic shows gathering the crowds.

Venture further toward the historic Spanish Arch area past the colourful shop fronts and buzzing bars and pick up a delicious stonebaked pizza from The Dough Bros for a great price. Or stop by McDonagh’s for some of the tastiest, and cheapest, traditional fish and chips you can find!

Check out the free Galway City Museum for their fascinating exhibitions showcasing everything from local historical revolutions to the wonders of the marine world. Stretch your legs with a free walking tour with the Galway Civic Trust and discover all the nooks and crannies of this medieval city. You can also learn all about the iconic Claddagh ring at the Claddgh Ring Visitor Centre.

Sun shining? Then hit the Salthill promenade! Spend the day strolling through the surf, take a dive off the thrilling Blackrock Diving Tower, then sit and watch the sun go down behind the distant hills of County Clare across the waters of Galway Bay.

Why not make a weekend of it and stay in one of the city’s hostels, where you’re sure to meet some unforgettable characters. Or you can rest your weary bones in the cheap and cheerful Travelodge, just a short walk from the city centre.

There’s so much to do here this is just the start! Do any other Community members have any suggestions to share?
