In december we are traveling to Ireland. We are planning to buy a ticket from Amsterdam to Dublin. We are thinking about taking the train from Dublin to Killarney. We are a family of 4, two adults and two children of 11 and 13 years old.
Should we buy a family ticket?
Are there other/ better options to travel from Dublin to Killarney?
Kind regards,
Simone

Hi, Simone.

Welcome to the Community! :)

Irish Rail indeed offers some great value for money with their family tickets. You can buy them at the station at the tickets office or from the vending machines. If you plan to take the same journey back within 30 days, an open return ticket is a great idea.
Other options would include a trip by bus. You can check the handy Transport for Ireland website to look up your itinerary and see which buses you'd need to take.

It's great to hear you're planning to take your kids with you. Do you have some fun family activities planned out? You can find some ideas in this Scrapbook with articles from our website (in Dutch).

I hope this helps with planning your upcoming travel!

Met vriendelijke groeten,
Joris

Hi Simone.

Just read your news and questions relating to traveling from Dublin to Killarney and what to do in Killarney over Christmas. Joris has given you very good advice and can I add to that.

Why not fly from Amsterdam to Cork - you will get into Cork at 10.05am - hire a car or get a bus from the Airport and arrive in Killarney before lunch. December days are short and long drives can be stressful.

Please check Irelandhotels.com for Killarney accommodations and I also would advise a car for your stay in Ireland. You should reserve as they are always very heavily booked for Christmas and New Year holidays.  For activities and attractions please view Killarney National Park and Killarney.ie
Enjoy your visit
