I'm a keen walker, the IC2C looks like a lot of fun.... have worked up an itinerary (Paddy Dillon's book was invaluable) which I attach. Thinking of putting first foot on the trail 12th April... if anyone has any advice on trail, accommodation, anything then it'd be great to hear from you

Cheers

Hi Paul,

It's lovely to hear that you are joining us for a coast to coast walk! Walking is a great way to get to know the landscape and people, and there are plenty of lovely walks and hikes to choose from.

There are some existing community posts, I have listed some of them here for your convenience, please feel free to have a look and see if there is some information that helps with your plans.

Wicklow Way: Knockree-Glendalough
Experience staying in an Irish B&B

There are also several walking tour companies that offer self-guided walking trips that may also be of help to you in your planning and moving around the country. Wonderful Ireland Walking Holidays and Footfalls Walking Holidays are all tour operators who offer tours in the area mentioned in your attached itinerary.

The Pathway Porter is a company specialised in moving luggage about for walkers and cyclists so you don't have to worry about carrying all of your bags with you. This may also interest you as I'm sure, a few miles without your luggage may be a blessing!

As mentioned in the Irish B&B post above, B&B Ireland also has a special category called Walkers B&B where they have information on B&B accommodation especially for walkers in mind.

I hope this gives you lots of inspiration, and I'm sure your fellow members and some industry partners will be able to add to this list!

If you need any more help, just let me know!

Martin

Martin, that's great, many thanks for such a quick and helpful response. The Pathway Porter have already been in touch which is great. I'll look at the various links sometime in the next 24 hours... mid April will come around soon enough.... I did do the Lands End John OGroats walk so am familiar with long-distance walks... and from my experience it's the accommodation which can be the most tricky aspect!
Kind regards and thanks again,
Paul Goodge

Hi Paul,

It's great to hear that you found the information useful and huge thanks to The Pathway Porter for getting in touch with you too!

Mid-April will indeed appear quickly, please keep us up to date with your plans and we would love to hear all about your time with us and how you get on with the walk and accommodation.

We have lots of people coming to the island of Ireland for walking and hiking holidays and real experiences are fantastic to read, and photos are always welcome.
