Hi Dale,
So glad to hear that you have confirmed your plans to visit in the Fall or Autumn as we call it!
Irish Rail runs a 3-month rolling timetable so for later in the year, check back to their website as the time approaches. The services will be available, so do not worry at this stage.
It is also possible to travel by coach from Dublin to Belfast!
Transport for Ireland has a handy journey planner which may be helpful, please have a look and see if there is a suitable alternative service to best suit your needs.
Rental cars are a handy way to see some areas but there is a
Belfast City Sightseeing bus that takes in many of the main attractions including the Giant's Causeway. The Black taxi tours are also an excellent way to see and hear all about the city and its past. Please have a look at our
touring ideas search page for some extra help with things to see and do in the city and surrounding area.
Google maps does indeed work here on the island of Ireland, so if you are familiar with it, then it will be an excellent help finding your way around. We have a
postal brochures page which has a Belfast Guide which you can order along with 2 other brochures for delivery to your home. The local tourist offices will have additional material when you are here too.
Regarding taking the ferry to Wales, please check with the rental car company for their terms and conditions regarding the use of ferries and travelling into the UK. This also would apply if going into Belfast in the car for the insurance cover.
I hope this helps, please check out the resources above and hopefully you will get some extra advice from our members and industry partners too.

Martin
