Hello again,

I have decided to fly into Dublin, and than travel the west Atlantic side. I am wondering though what would be my best option/?
If I take Irish rail would it be accessible from the airport to catch, or will I have to walk to it?
Also I can get a bis pass once at airport correct for the city buses? Would that not be my cheapest way? That way I have amount of dollars on card. I will be getting around your beautiful island through walking or taking public transportation or the train. Where would be the best place to position myself to get around easier? Do I stay in bug cities like Limerick, and Cork and use them as my station ground, or stay somewhere smaller and take buses? Are any places close to each other, I could possible walk? I for sure want to see Galway and spend time with golf wonderful castles and Cliffs of Moher?
I am sorry as I am no sure what to do in regards to spend my time there. I am arriving from Iceland into Dublin August 4,and leave around the 28 30 of August. I will be spending time in Dublin to finish off my trip, and flying from Dublin to Hamilton

Hello again, Alison! :)

Your trip is really coming closer now, and it is very exciting that you'll be exploring the island for such a long time.

Are you still thinking of travelling to Shannon from Dublin, or would any place along the west coast be an option? For the train you'd have to take a bus from Dublin Airport to Heuston Station in Dublin City. Bus tickets can be bought at the airport, as well as directly from the bus driver. (Make sure you take the right cash amount with you).

There are also buses that can take you there directly from the terminal at the airport. You can take the X12 to Limerick, operated by Bus Éireann, and from there hop on line 343 towards Ennis. For the full route and other options, take a look at the Transport of Ireland search here.

Cities like Cork, Limerick and Galway would be good examples of where to stay when you are planning on travelling via public transport. There you can usually find the most connections to other places, as well as the option for coach tours and day tours to places of interest. :) Galway would be a great base for exploring the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. What are some of the other things you'd like to see?

The connection between Dublin Airport and Galway is super easy and fast, and a great way to travel to the west coast if this is an option. It takes around 2,5 hours by both train and bus to get there

Hello Merlin.

Thank you for your response. I will be travelling from Iceland to Dublin airport, instead of Shannon. I found out it is a big difference in price. So once at airport I guess I have to figure out where I want to make my first place to stay, and use that as my focal point?
I am not sure what would be my best option as to spend first once travelling from airport. That is my questions what would be my best course of action to get an airbnb or some sort of accommodations  and maybe stay there for a week or less, and than travel to another place and stay there, I want to use a few or possibly three of places to stay and use that as my main base, and get to travel to see the east Atlantic side. I am hoping to stay in that area and than start to make my way towards Dublin. I have been through Hoeth and Wicklow, want to see the area of Reystones just for even a day or two. Than be somewhere close when I take off back to Canada at the end of August.
I love cliffs, beaches, and history. Gardens, biking and hiking. I would really appreciate your effort and help. Also just off hand I would appreciate local free stuff to visit, and I will be spending money on tours and places to stay/.
Thanks you for your help

Hi Alison,

It's so very good to hear that your plans are taking shape! I'd be absolutely delighted to chime in and, hopefully, help with a few ideas.

It sounds like you have a wonderful idea of where to start already. Making a kind of home for yourself is a wonderful way to kick your adventure if that's where you'd like to begin. But, if you're still not sure where exactly you'd like to set your roots, I'd suggest taking a peek at our accommodations finder. It can be a wonderful tool to help find where to stay. You can easily search through options just by putting in where you'd like to settle, be it for a night or longer, the kind of accommodation you prefer, and you can even filter by star rating. If you do decide to travel without a base of operations, it can still be useful in finding where to settle down next.

I'd also love to hear just a bit more about your plans so that I can offer a little more targetted advice. Once I know a wee bit more about where you'd like to spend the most time, at this stage in planning, I might just be able to point you towards even more helpful resources.

If you need just a bit more inspiration to help fill out your itinerary, I do have a few ideas to share. With biking, you might like to take a peek at these six lovely cycling routes, one of which is in Galway, not terribly far from Shannon. There's also plenty of greenery around our little isle, and this article about Ireland's gardens lists a few personal favourites.

For more inspiration about where to explore Irish history, you can find a few suggestions right here on the boards! This discussion about where to visit on a journey into Ireland's past might interest you, as well. Please do feel free to take a quick peek at what other users have posted, there are a few gems tucked away that you might love.

Finally, if you're looking for a bit of free fun, there are actually plenty of spots around Ireland that you can visit for free, in fact! We even have articles on where to find more budget-friendly fun in cities like Dublin, Galway, and Belfast.

I do sincerely hope this helps and if you need any more advice, please do let me know.

Kindly,

~Rochelle

Hello Alison!

If I remember correctly you've visited us last month, and I would love to hear more about your adventures here on the island. Where have you been staying, and what are some of the places you've explored? :)
