Does this mean that one has to know the PIN for their credit card in order to use it versus swiping or using just the chip inserted?

Hi Brian! It's great that you are planning a visit to the Emerald Isle!

Ireland uses the "chip and pin" system for credit and debit cards, so you do indeed have to know your PIN code. Some retailers might accept swipe cards but it isn't always guaranteed. I'd suggest you get in touch with your bank in case you don't know your PIN code. 😊 You can also use contactless payment if you'd like (for small amounts)

Here are a few more tips about money in Ireland.

What have you got planned during your time with us?

Cheers,
Antoine

Thank you.  I'll call our credit card provider to get the PINs.  We're flying into Dublin, headed to Galway for a couple days, then to the Dromoland area and back to Dublin.  From there we fly to London for a few days.

Hi, Brian!

Before your trip, you may wish to take a look at our travel checklist so that you have everything in order! ✅

Are you planning to stay in Dublin for any time or is it just to access the airport? If you have some time to spare, I would recommend checking out the Guinness Storehouse and Kilmainham Gaol! ☘️

Galway is a vibrant city with plenty of music and food, and I would definitely recommend checking out some of the great places to eat that it has to offer.

Of course, where you're in Dromoland, you have to visit the castle and perhaps play a spot of golf here too! 🏰⛳️

Do you have any plans for your itinerary yourself? You can always check out the trip ideas on our website if you need some helping planning your time on the island.

Wishing you a lovely day,
Aimee
