Hi, my boyfriend and I are going to Ireland in March and wanted to do a motorhome tour along the Wild Atlantic Way. What do you recommend? Do you think it is possible to manage a free camping trip? If not, what kind of infrastructure is there? Do you know of any campsites open in March? What kind of facilities do they have? Thank you very much for your help!

Hello Margherita,

How nice that you are planning to explore Ireland by motorhome! Are you planning to drive the entire coastal route ?

Usually, it is best to stay at campsites while traveling along the Wild Atlantic Way. The rule of thumb is that overnight parking is only permitted with the landowner's permission or in dedicated spaces, when not forbidden by signs.

There are many campsites listed on the Camping Ireland website and you can see their opening dates by clicking on every listing. Most of them have facilities for RV and camper vans (water/waste disposal, electricity, etc). For more convenience, you can filter by camping type (Campervan/Motorhome).

Furthermore, there are other overnight parking options such as Safe Nights Ireland. The Total Camping Ireland website lists more of these overnight parking options (sometimes free, sometimes for a small fee).

Let us know how your plans are coming along. 😊

Cheers,
Antoine
