Hi Bridget,
That sounds like a wonderful idea! Using one place as a base during your trip makes it very easy to explore without having to move around too much with luggage.
Dublin could be a great choice if you're interested in plenty of public transport and organised
tours. From the city, you can join day trips to places like
Glendalough,
Newgrange, and even the
Cliffs of Moher, though keep in mind it's a long day out. The benefit of Dublin is that you'll have a mix of history, nightlife, and day tours right on your doorstep.
If your main goal is the Cliffs,
Galway might be an even better option. It's a smaller, very walkable city, and from there you can easily take tours to the Cliffs of Moher,
Connemara, or
the Aran Islands. Galway also has a lively atmosphere with street music, colourful shops, and plenty of great food.
Other towns and cities you might like to consider are
Cork,
Limerick, or
Kilkenny - each has its own character and makes a good hub for exploring the surrounding regions.
Here are some resources you might find useful as you plan:
- 5 day trips from
Dublin or
Galway Whichever base you choose, you'll find that there are lots of easy ways to reach Ireland's highlights - and just as many hidden gems along the way. I hope this offers you some inspiration, and let me know if I can help in any other way
Best wishes,
Sadhbh
