If you’re coming to Ireland and you want a unique taste of our island, then you have to try these delicious treats.

Barmbrack, traditionally served at Halloween, is a type of sweet bread filled with raisins and currants. Slathered in butter and served with tea, it’s a staple of Irish homes! And if you find the ring inside, you’re in luck – you’re the next to get married.

We head to Northern Ireland next, where you’ll find the sweet Yellowman candy, a type of handmade honeycomb that melts in the mouth. While you’re up there, get your hands on a Comber potato – this delicious variety of the humble spud is best served tender and drenched in local handmade Irish butter.

If you see it on a menu, be sure to order champ – creamy mashed potatoes with scallions, often filled with gooey cheese.  What more could you want? Always make sure it’s served with warm fresh soda bread straight out the oven!

Ireland is well known for its dairy, and its butter especially, but in recent years its cheeses have gained considerable fame too. The island’s best exports, Gubbeen and Cooleeney have wowed cheese lovers all over the world with their unique flavours and exciting varieties. Best served on crackers with a dollop of the famous Ballymaloe relish, a sweet and slightly spicy tomato relish from County Cork. It’s incomparable!

So now you know – make sure to sample these and more on your travels around the island of Ireland!
