Hi Nousheen,
You mention about possibly extending your weekend in Dublin by another week. Have you thought about travelling up to Northern Ireland? In particular, to visit The Giant’s Causeway?
This unique site in Ireland, with its 40,000 basalt columns, is truly fascinating for people of all ages. It is also accessible to young and old alike as there is a bus which transports people between the Visitors’ Centre and “the Stones”. Think of the great photo opportunities while there! For the more energetic, it is possible to climb the Shepherd’s Path to the cliff top and complete a circular walk.
Not far from The Giant’s Causeway, on the Causeway Coastal Route, you come to Dunluce Castle. This ruined castle on its rocky, exposed site, is also very accessible by all. There are stunning views out to sea and along the coast from its “windows”.
Further west are the long sandy beaches at the Victorian sea-side towns of Portrush and Portstewart, so popular with families, enjoying the simple pleasures of time spent on the beach, making sand castles, eating ice cream and enjoying the waves. (Surfing opportunities abound in this area.) Make sure you take time to savour the delights of simply being three generations together in a beautiful place.
