So many people I meet ...both locals and international visitors usually start off our conversation by saying....'you know Bill, I've always wanted to go to the Aran Islands'.  I reply...'hop on we're going in a few minutes'! (and by the way it will only take 15 minutes!)
In March 1970 I got the bright idea of taking visitors from the shore in Doolin to the closest Aran Island of Inis Oirr.  A little known fact is that the shortest crossing to the Aran Islands from mainland Ireland is from Doolin, Co Clare.  AND the geology of the Aran Islands is an extension of the limestone plateau of the Burren.  Besides ...these iconic affects (Islands, coast, sea & Cliffs) created by Mother Nature herself........for administrative reasons (county councils) Doolin is in Co Clare and the Aran Islands are in Co Galway.
Today two  'new piers'  later I no longer launch from the shore but from a deep water pier which the Clare County Council built in 2016 with ample car parking facilities for cars, bikes and coaches.
And now joined by my son Liam we have expanded our fleet of passenger ferries to include in 2017.....the new super fast and super comfortable Doolin Express.  This state of the art boat with its anti sea sickness technology became another first on this route.  With this launch we effectively elevated the comfort level of passengers to unseen standard of comfort and speed never enjoyed before Irish Waters.
So to help you achieve one or possibly even two of your 'bucket list' items you can book a trip of a lifetime with me phone 00353 872359918 or email me on:  bill@doolinferry.com.  Looking forward to seeing you soon. Bill

Hi Bill,

We are traveling to Ireland this summer and are definitely interested in a trip to the Aran Islands, but.... you say the trip takes about 15 mins and when I look for info on the internet, ... people say it takes between 30-40 mins. As I am a person who gets seasick in a flash :/... it is rather important to know whether it takes 15 or 40 mins :-)

Thanks!
Eva

Hi Eva,

We're super excited for you.

The Aran Islands are an excellent choice to include in your itinerary!
The exact duration of the boat trip depends on the sea, right Bill?

What other adventures do you have in store for your trip?

Let us know if there's anything we can help you with, and do keep us posted on your trip!

Groetjes,

Elodie

Great question Eva thanks for asking.

Elodie is partly right ..but that was before we launched our new boat the Doolin Express...this new boat has totally raised the bar in speed and comfort.  We searched widely for a boat to suit you Eva...this boat is equipped with electronic stabilisers ..it is light and fast and extremely stable.  And it only take 15 minutes to get to Inis Oirr.  We have 2 other very good boats in our fleet but the Express does 80% of our service.  To ensure you are on this boat book your ticket for the 10am or 11 am sailing to Inis Oirr combined with the Cliffs of Moher on your return...all on the Doolin Express.   This is a new generation passenger ferry and the only one of its kind on Irish waters...truly a game changer.
