Hi there, one of our senior clients was wondering if there is subsidised public transport for her when she visits Ireland-she is an Irish national, though living in England. She says on precious visits to Ireland, she has found there are no reductions for her, although she has had some public transport travel discounts when visiting other member countries of the EU. Can anyone advise please?
Many thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Welcome to our community, and great question! Many people still remember the scheme that used to exist which entitled senior travelers from outside the isle to cheap or free transport. This scheme has been discontinued, and although there is some subsidised public transport available, the rules for applying are quite strict and it is generally only available to those who reside in Ireland.

Outside of that, some public transport companies do offer concessions for visiting travelers, such as tourist tickets, that your client may be able to use, as well as special offers for travel around Ireland at various times of the year.

Hope this helps,
Cornelia
