Dublin to Kenmare transportation

I'm flying into Dublin July 2018, but will be staying for a week in and around Kenmare, Co. Kerry, then flying out of Dublin. Is there public transportation between Dublin airport and Kenmare?  I don't want to try driving in Ireland. Thank you.

Lovely to hear that you'll be spending time in Ireland in July, Kenmare is a great place to visit.

Public transport is one of the best ways to travel around the island of Ireland! Our general information page on public transport will give you a good idea of what is available for your trip, and I would advise you to download the Journey Planner app, as the trip between Dublin and Kenmare is quite a long one.

Your travel times would depend on what time you arrive in Dublin, but generally speaking the trip takes between 6-8 hours, with 2 -3 transfers along the way.

Have you planned your itinerary for the visit already? Kenmare is lovely, and the area has some wonderful things to see and do as well, for instance Kenmare Farmer's Market is delightful.

You can get a train to Killarney (3 hours 20 mins) and then a bus to Kenmare from Killarney (50 minutes) it would be lovely to spend a couple of hours in Killarney before you get the connecting bus to see some of the town and try out one of the many lovely restaurants. You could also take a jaunting car tour from very close to the train station into the National Park and out to see the famous lakes.
Alternatively, you can take a direct bus or train to Cork city, they both take about 3 hours, and then a bus from Cork to Kenmare which takes about 2.30 hours. It might be lovely to  browse around the English market in Cork while you are waiting for your connecting bus. It would be enjoyable to have a lovely meal there as it's only a short walk from the bus station and there's loads of delicious options in atmospheric surroundings.
