Hello Irene,

The Burren is a very large 'karst' region ...made up of 13 limestone hills and valleys, lowlands and coastline in North Clare and South Galway regions.  You'll find some more information on the Burren here and check our www.burren.ie for all the information you require.  Any questions just ask.  Happy trip planning, Bill O Brien 065 707 5555 info@doolinferry.com

Hello Irene!

The Burren is a vast limestone plateau that extends over a large area north of County Clare: to get an idea of its size, look at the map here. The particularity of this place is given by its diversity of flora and by the conformation of the calcareous rocks that they give a lunar aspect.
That said, I would recommend you to hike at least 1 hr to explore the territory and visit one of the symbols of the park: the Poulnabrone dolmen, a well preserved megalithic tomb, dating from the Neolithic.

The Black Head is a scenic spot located on the shores of Galway Bay, which is reached by following the R477 coastal road passing through Ballyvaughan. On the promontory stands a small lighthouse from which you can spot the Aran Islands: it's really worth a visit! To know the distances and travel times between these two locations, take a look at this  Google map.

I hope this information helps you to complete your itinerary. If you need any other tips, always you find me here.

Have a great day!

Francesco
