I currently have a friend studying in Dublin.  I would like him to take a picture of a family grave if it can be traced to a specific cemetery.  It seems all records in my time period are lost.  Hoping someone here has some info to help me as ancestry is expensive.

My ancestors were living in Dublin before they came to America. They are Thomas O'Shea B: around 1765 and D: 1790 in Dublin.  He was married to Bridgett (maiden name Hanan) B: before 1769 and she died in Morgantown West Virginia, USA.  They had three sons and planned to move to America.  They bought tickets from Dublin to Baltimore sometime in 1790 (cannot find ticket copies, this is according to family lore, apparently they sold their house to make the move).  Thomas O'Shea died before their departure and was buried in Dublin.  Bridgett went to America with her sons, dropped the O and changed the name to Shay (we think).

Any information on the family or where Thomas O'Shay could be from/buried would be very useful! Thank you! Ellen Shay

Hi Ellen,

I would love to see what I can do to help you find out more about the cemetery where Thomas O'Shay was buried.

Before 1864 records were kept in the form of church and parish records, and while some of these have regrettably been lost over the years, all the surviving records have been sorted into county based genealogical centres. Since your ancestors lived in Dublin around that time, you can get in touch with the Archives in Dublin for more information. They might have some documents on where Thomas was buried.

I hope this was helpful, and hopefully you'll be able to get some more input via the Community! :)
