I’ve hit a brick wall in my search for information about my 3rd great grandfather. I believe his name to be Christopher Fox and he may have been born abt 1800 in Kings County.

His son, my 2nd great grandfather, Michael Fox was born in 1840 in Offaly Ireland. Michael migrated to Australia on 23rd May 1866 and died in 1918 in Melbourne Australia.

Michael had siblings Patrick, Mary, Margaret, John, Rose-Ann, Thomas, Martha, Phillip, Catherine and Christopher.

Hi Christy

You will have to reply on church baptismal registers to confirm birth of Christopher Fox c.1800.

RootsIreland at http://www.rootsireland.ie  holds the largest collection of transcripts of Irish church registers of all denominations. A search of their index reveals 5 baptismal entries for a Christopher Fox in time period 1790 to 1810.

Of course, it must be emphasised that majority of Irish church registers don't survive prior to 1820, hence the birth details of many of our ancestors will not be recorded in a church register.

Hi Christy,

Brian has already found some useful information, and I'd like to add some more resources to help you on your search.

Before 1864 records were kept in the form of church and parish records, and while some of these have regrettably been lost over the years, all the surviving records have been sorted into county based genealogical centres. Have you been in touch with the centre in County Offaly yet?

I hope you'll receive more tips here that will lead to Christopher! :)

Melin
