I will be traveling to Ireland this June and have a question about the railway. We are flying into Dublin, renting a car and traveling around the country. Our plan is to end up in Galway then take a train back to Dublin for a few nights. I've looked in to the train system but am confused as to how to go about buying tickets. Can anyone provide insight into how to purchase tickets? Is it too early to purchase for June?

Hi Jennifer,

June is a fabulous time for a visit to the island of Ireland!

It is indeed possible to catch the train from Galway to Dublin with Irish Rail. Their timetable currently runs until the 3rd of May so a three-month rolling schedule is available at this time. Once the time has moved on, their website allows you to select the particular time and ticket required, follow the instructions on how to purchase and there you go!

We would love to hear about your itinerary for the time from Dublin until you end up at Galway. Have you made your plans already or are you looking to fill in some gaps?

I'm sure your fellow members and some industry partners will be able to add to your list!

Speak soon,

Martin

We fly into Dublin then are renting a car and heading toward Dungarven (1 night), then over near Blarney (2 nights), then Doolin (1 night), then Galway. (2 nights) The plan is to return the car in Galway and take the train to Dublin, spend a few nights in Dublin then fly out.  We don't exactly have the days planned out but know the main areas we would to visit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Jennifer,

That sounds like a wonderful plan! Travelling by rail is a lovely way to explore the island, and I would love to provide you with some suggestions for your trip.

What do you have in mind so far, and is there anything in particular that you're interested in? :)

Warm regards,

Melin
