Have you heard of a vacation rental asking for a copy of one's driver's license or passport to be emailed prior to the stay? We booked an  apartment in a major city in Ireland online through a major US vacation rental booking agency, and have now been asked directly by the lessor for this information (not through the booking agency). This wasn't in the rental agreement at time of booking, so it feels like it could be fraudulent. We called the Irish embassy in Washington DC, and they said to be wary and to consider not providing the info because they have been made aware of scams. Thoughts/experiences to share please...

Hello Mary,

It is very exciting that you are planning on visiting us! :)

In this case I would definitely recommend reaching out to the booking agency for more advice. They should be able to tell you more, and could probably get in touch with the accommodation for clarification as well.

On the following website you can find all tourist board approved accommodation on the island. Is the accommodation you booked on that list by any chance?

What else do you have planned for your trip? I'd love to provide you with more ideas and suggestions for your visit.

Warm regards,

Melin
