Hi

We are traveling to Ireland for 15 days.  We start and end in Dublin.  We would like to travel to Northern Ireland first.

What are your ideas for the 15 days?   We would like to stay in 5 cities for three days each.  Which ones would you recommend so that we are neutrally located and can site see during our stay at each city? We would also like to golf one day and stay in a castle on night.  We would like to take a train tour as well.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Kristi,

Great that you'll be visiting Ireland this summer, 15 days is a lovely period of time to have to do some exploring and travelling around.

Will you be renting a car or would you like to do most of your travelling by train and bus?

Our Trip Ideas Hub is a good place to start to get an idea of what type of tour you would like to take, and where you would like to go. It offers itineraries with travel times and places to stay along the way and you can connect two or three shorter itineraries for your 15 day trip.

Ireland's trains take you along the wonderful countryside and we have picked out five of the best to give you an idea of what you can see when you get on a train in Ireland. As you start and end in Dublin, why not take the short ride on the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) through amazing views to a great day out on the coast.

As you say you want to travel to Northern Ireland first, why not take a trip on the train to Belfast, it will take you along some great countryside and in Belfast you will be very well stationed for trips along the Causeway Coastal Route.

There are many opportunities to play golf in Ireland and you can stop off along the way as you tour to take in a few greens and courses. Our accommodation search engine can help you find specialised accommodation which includes golf, but also find you great castles to stay in. The map view will help you see where the accommodation is in relation to the places you would like to see and visit.

Will this be your first visit to our green isle?

Warm regards,
Cornelia

Hi Kristi,

Hopefully I can give you a few suggestions for your trip to Northern Ireland. If you would like to start your holiday in the vicinity of Belfast you are well placed to explore the surrounding area.

Going north out of the city is the Causeway Coastal Route which is well signposted. Following that road you come to Carrickfergus, the location for a well preserved Norman castle. The castle is open to visitors, however to stay overnight in one, keep travelling north along the coastline to Ballygally Castle Hotel where you might even have an encounter with the resident ghost!

Along the route there are plenty of opportunities to stop off and explore places such as the Glens of Antrim, Game of Thrones film locations, Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge, Bushmills Whiskey Distillery and the Giant's Causeway.

The Royal Portrush Golf Club is located on the Causeway Coastal Route. The club is hosting The Open golf tournament in July this year. Might you consider having your game of golf there?

There is a highly rated train journey from Coleraine, the main town in the Causeway Coast and Glens, to Derry/Londonderry along the coast.  To learn a bit more about the area, please visit our web site: www.visitcausewaycoastandglens.gov.uk

I hope you enjoy your 15 days in Ireland!
Anne

Hello Kristi,

You've chosen a lovely time of year to visit!

Penny is also planning on travelling around the island for 15 days this summer, and I think you can find some helpful tips, ideas and suggestions in her thread as well. :)

How are you getting on with your plans for June? Have you been able to find the 5 cities you would like to stay in? You can read more about the recommendations and experiences of our other members on the Great Cities and Amazing Road Trips sections of the Community.

I hope this was helpful, and I'm always here if you have questions!

Warm regards,

Melin
