Laurence Alphonsus McClean his sisters were/are Anna Bella McClean, Sarah Agnes McClean, and brothers John Edward McClean , Patrick McClean and Michael McClean. Looking for family in the Slaughtmanus area and wanted to know if anyone knew or knows the McClean family from Slaughtmanus area.
My Great Grandfather was John McClean born in 1850 give or take a year , he was a Shepherd. His son was also John McClean both 1874 a postman and his Son, my father was Laurence Alphonse McClean born in Slaughtmanus area in 1924.
His mother was Margaret Ferguson, I believe. He left Ireland in the mid 1940's moving to England living in Aylesbury Buckinghamshire where he worked in a local hospital called St. John's , that is where he met my mother. And i am the result to put it bluntly.
I was put up for adoption so that should tell you that they were not married and I was born out of wedlock. It has been a life long desire and journey for me to find out where my people came/come from, where my roots are and through a very long process, a lot of looking and asking questions and finally through ancestry.com locating someone who appeared to by a 1/2 sibling we both took the DNA test and the results came back to show we shared the same father.
I wonder if anyone knows anything about the family, if any still live in the area or in County Londonderry or the surrounding areas. Any information would be greatly appreciated and I can not tell you how much it would mean to me after what is now been many decades to have answers to the questions, who am I, where do my people come from and where they call home.
To any of the McClean family who might read this I apologize for any inaccuracies, or misspellings. this is being posted for only the reason of wanting to know. One of the things many adopted people struggle with all their lives can be summed up in that question all of us are asked so often. "where do you come from " ? All my life i have answered that as honestly as I could but always felt that in truth i was being untruthful, but how could I , I did not know, there is so much more to this story , and it has been very difficult that at times I just wanted to give up . But in recent years with some health issues I have faced and now that I am starting to move on in years it is simply something I would like to know before my time comes. Just finding out how Irish my DNA is was a total shock to me, again any information is greatly appreciate and thank you to those who already have made some suggestions on where to do some searching.
