In Canada we are used to having debt/credit card machines readily available at almost all places of business. How common are they in Ireland? i.e. If we shop/dine in small towns & villages and visit historic sites will we require cash or will we be able to use our cards? We noticed a few years ago, when traveling in Scotland, that if there were debt/credit card machines available they didn't include the tip option.  Looking forward to our trip & your feed back, K

Hi Kathryn,

It's so exciting that you're thinking of visiting us!

Here on the island you will find ATM's and card machines almost everywhere, so you will be able to use your debit or credit card without any problems. :) Take a look at this helpful thread for more information and tips.

It's always a good idea to get in touch with your bank before you travel to make sure everything works once you're here

Tipping via a card machine isn't very common here, and people usually just give a cash tip. You can read more about it in this thread

What places and attractions would you like to visit? I would love to provide you with suggestions and ideas for your trip!

Warm regards,

Melin

Thanks Merlin, your response is helpful.  I would say the planning is complete but the ireland.com emails keep coming with more interesting things to do/see and add to the wish list.  Time to dust off the travel bags & get packing. K
