What an interesting topic! I’ve always been fascinated by lighthouses. Visiting one always makes me feel like I’ve taken a step into the past, to see a piece of standing history. It’s such a wonderful mix of form and function, seeing the effort put into a structure that serves as a warning and guides in the dark to sailors of old. One of my personal favourites is the lighthouse in Wicklow, which looks so different from more classical examples of lighthouse design.
Made of solid stone, it almost resembles a castle tower. I’m just in love with the sharp edges and the tapering windows, it’s clear a lot of heart went into its design. Every inch of this lighthouse is just stunning, whether you see it from up close or far away.
