Many years ago we saw a movie with this title and it featured some amazing scenery of the west coast of Ireland. A few years later we watched the BBC series : Monty Halls’ great Irish escape which showed more stunning scenery, some lovely wildlife and great people. We decided to investigate for ourselves. We have returned many times and have always felt like we were coming home. We have thousands of pictures so I thought we should share a few that make us smile.https://d2b4i25io5fq3v.cloudfront.net/18-08-2020/a99c7574-9c9f-49af-95b7-a38f.jpg
The view from near the top of Errisbeg showing the mermaids tail made up by the stunning beaches of Gurteen and Dogs Bay.

We tend to travel before the school holidays so that we only have small crowds to share ‘our’ beaches!

Other beaches are reserved for the sporting fraternity for training purposes. (Not reserved just me being silly)

If we look away from the sea from the top of Errisbeg, wecan see the bogs and the Bens.

We also met some local horses whilst we wandered.

We then took a boat trip to see some more local wildlife.

Being close to the Wild Atlantic way we had to see the spectacular stacks of the Loophead peninsular.https://d2b4i25io5fq3v.cloudfront.net/18-08-2020/1499ded1-55e3-4ad0-aae7-3ee8.jpghttps://d2b4i25io5fq3v.cloudfront.net/18-08-2020/463d5305-f9ca-4834-b981-c827.jpghttps://d2b4i25io5fq3v.cloudfront.net/18-08-2020/f532c943-c0a5-4274-9300-a5e0.jpg

As well as the coastal views we also checked out the mountains and greeneryhttps://d2b4i25io5fq3v.cloudfront.net/18-08-2020/37a06ad7-d835-41b2-ad7b-f5b6.jpghttps://d2b4i25io5fq3v.cloudfront.net/18-08-2020/ed8bdb1e-db15-453d-8ba3-0d89.jpghttps://d2b4i25io5fq3v.cloudfront.net/18-08-2020/b2c57447-3bc8-42a5-a693-1c1f.jpg

To the slightly more “crowded” beaches of the beautiful Achill Island

We have so many more images from the mountains , peat bogs and beaches but I think I should stop now as I am suffering withdrawal symptoms.

Hi Mick,

These pictures definitely made me smile! 😃 You've seen some wonderful places during your time here, and it's definitely added some locations to my list. Thanks so much for sharing.

How long did you travel around the area for?

Hi & thanks. We usually spend 2  weeks but we have been many times. We have been when the weather was not so friendly as well as during a heatwave. We have also been a bit further north and south. We tend to base ourselves near Ballyconeely so can visit the Connemara pony shows as well as the amazing beaches and mountains.

Hi Mick,

It's great that you've been over to visit multiple times, and that you've seen this area in all types of weather, It really does add its own character to the environment.

I also love how much of the local fauna you managed to capture on film, especially the horses and sheep. Feel free to share more images of your other adventures, as well as the Connemara Pony shows with us here. 😊

Thanks again!
