Christmas on the island of Ireland is a real family affair.
Things are evolving periodically regarding travel both to and from the island of Ireland as well as on the island of Ireland. While our airports and ferry ports are open, the authorities in the Republic of Ireland are currently advising against non-essential overseas travel such as tourism, so
Christmas this year may not be the same as previous years.
Please continue to check the official websites for more details, links available on
travel health page and
GOV.IE page. If you’re concerned about how the situation will affect your travel plans for Christmas, we recommend that you check with your preferred airline, tour operator or transport and accommodation providers directly as they will also have the most up to date information on the services they provide.
Most places close early on Christmas Eve and remain closed until after St Stephen's Day on the 26th of December, so you would need a hotel to stay in that will be open for residents over this period. Please have a look at our
approved accommodation search page for details of hotels.
Are you looking for a quiet location to spend the holiday period or a more busy city? Please keep in mind the current
restrictions on movement which may well still be in place for the rest of the year.
