Hi all,
Hope you are safe and doing well.
Lough Ouler - Ireland's only heart-shaped lake situated in Wicklow Mountains National Park situated just south to Dublin. Covering 20,483 hectares, Wicklow Mountains National Park has the distinction of being the largest of Ireland’s six National Parks. It is also the only one located in the east of the country.
We had an absolutely gratifying trip to the Lough Ouler form Dublin.- 45 mins drive from Dublin- 2.5 hours of hiking (ascent and descent) - 30 mins photo op
The ascent up Tonelagee is quite exposed (clockwise), but we were quite lucky with the weather and got the most generous sunshine on the day (21 degree C).
The trail, for the most part, is easy to follow but you can loose sight of it in some parts. Breezed past the turn to head back towards Lough Ouler and had to do some boggy bushwhacking to get back on track. The sections along the river are still very waterlogged (August) so boots/ hiking shoes are a must.
Well worth the drive and I'll be heading back.
