Hi Fiona,
Happy St. Patrick's Day! 😊☘️ I'd love to see what I can do to help you find out more about your roots.
Some helpful information to keep in mind during your research: Before 1864 records were kept in the form of church and parish records; while some of these have regrettably been lost over the years, all the surviving records have been sorted into county-based
genealogical centres.
In 1864 civil registration was introduced in Ireland, which is when we started seeing the formal registration of births, marriages, adoptions and deaths. These records have been kept at the General
Register Office of Ireland (GRO), to this day.
Since you suspect that your grandmother was from the Kerry area, I had a look through the civil records. There are no results for a Brenda Kennedy, but there are 28
Bridget Kennedy's born in the year 1919. I couldn't however find a match when it comes to the exact birthday and the name of her father.
Have you been in touch with GRO yet by any chance? They might be able to dive a little deeper into the archives.
Warm wishes,
Melin
