Hi folks, with today's announcements, it's still not clear what people travelling to Ireland from GB need to do.
I'm an Irish citizen and have my vaccinations and a British NHS app on my phone which shows this. My wife though is Scottish and has only had her second jab a week ago. Will we be able to travel directly to Dublin? Will we be able to get served indoors etc?
All help greatly appreciated!

Hello Kevin,

Thank you so much for reaching out with these questions!

It's an absolute delight to hear that you and your wife want to stop by for a visit. I'd be happy to help however I can!

Starting on the 19th of July, Ireland will operate the EU Digital Covid Certificate for travel, which originated within the EU/EEA. This may sound complicated, but it's essentially just a series of rules to help keep travel as safe as possible. What you should bear in mind is that this plan is subject to changes in the current public health situation. I'd suggest that you make bookings with flexible cancellation policies, since any information I give may change as the global health crisis either improves or declines.

The best place to stay up to date is our traveller health page. You can keep on top of the current situation and recent changes by following helpful links to the governments’ guidelines.

In essence, assuming a so-called 'emergency brake' has not been applied to travel from the UK, then fully vaccinated people arriving from 19th of July onwards won't be required to home quarantine or to provide a negative RT-PCR test result. As your wife received her second vaccination last week, she should be considered fully vaccinated by this point.

You will still need to fill out a Passenger Locator Form and provide proof of your vaccinations, however. I would once again recommend reading this resource about the EU Digital Covid Certificate, which has the most accurate information on the current situation.

While I would love to assure you that Ireland will be ready to welcome you and your wife to our shores on July 19th and beyond, the situation is continuing to change and any information I provide may change as well. What I'd recommend is keeping an eye on the resources above, contacting your accommodation providers and other businesses regarding their personal policies, and have room for flexibility in your plans.

Thank you again for wanting to stop by to see Dublin in person. If there's anything else I can do to help, or any questions you might still have, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Kindly,
Rochelle
