Hi,
We would like to visit Ireland in a campervan next week.
As we leave from Belgium, the easiest way for us is cross the channel via ferry to Dover in England, drive to Wales and take a ferry to Ireland.
Covid restrictions in Ireland look OK for us, 3 of us are fully vaccinated and our 16 yr old will get a PCR test done.
The question is whether we will be allowed to cross England and Wales to catch the ferry to Rosslare.
Can someone help us?
Thanks,
Aymeric

Hi Aymeric,

Lovely to hear about your upcoming campervan plans! I can understand there might be some confusion about Covid restrictions, especially since you're planning to travel through the UK. We've noticed you created the same thread twice, so we went and deleted the other one in order to answer you here.

For being able to enter the UK from an 'amber' country such as Belgium, you'll need to present a negative Covid test result and fill in a Passenger Locator Form, even if fully vaccinated. You can find more details and possible updates to the situation on the UK Government's website or on the website of the Belgian Embassy in the UK.

To enter Ireland from a non-EU country such as the UK, you'll be able to enter without a test or quarantine if you have valid proof of vaccination. As long as your 16 yr old has a negative RT-PCR test result and is accompanied by vaccinated adults, they won't need to quarantine either. More info on travelling to Ireland can be found on the government's website. Make sure to fill in the required Passenger Locator Form for Ireland as well. On our website we try to keep you informed about any possible updates. For Belgium, we have information available both in French and in Dutch.

I'd recommend reaching out to your ferry operator too, for any additional information.

I hope this is helpful. If you're ever in need of campervan itinerary tips or suggestions, do let us know! We can also help you out in French or in Dutch, whichever you prefer.

Joris

Thanks a lot Joris, this is great!
I also got the confirmation that we can cross the UK as a "transit stop" to Ireland with no additional measures as the ones to enter Ireland.
We need to show a proof that we continue to Ireland such as a ferry booking and confirm that we will not drop or load any passenger.
We will most likely cross to Rosslare, any itinerary suggestions are most welcome, we will stay for about 10 days on Irish ground.
Looking forward to it!

Hi Aymeric,

That's great news, your camper van trip is getting closer and closer! 🚐 😀

From Rosslare, you could continue along the coast through Co. Cork and then start exploring the Wild Atlantic Way for instance.
You'll find more inspiration on our trip ideas page.

Here are also a few tips on travelling in Ireland with a motorhome or a campervan

I hope this helps, feel free to come back to us if you have any gaps in your itinerary. 😊

Cheers,
Antoine
