What happens if it rains on your wedding day?

Irish weather is famously unpredictable, particularly along the Atlantic coast.

That's why we always arrange an indoor backup ceremony venue as part of our Cliffs of Moher packages.

If conditions aren't suitable for an outdoor ceremony, couples can have their ceremony indoors and, if the weather improves, still head onto the cliffs afterward for photographs.

It's something I would strongly recommend checking with any wedding planner before booking an outdoor ceremony in Ireland.

Can you legally get married at the Cliffs of Moher?

Yes, it is possible to have a legally recognized marriage at the Cliffs of Moher, provided the ceremony and location meet the relevant Irish legal requirements.

Couples traveling from the USA, Canada, and other countries do not need to be Irish residents to get legally married in Ireland.

Giving at least three months' notice of your intention to marry.
Completing the necessary marriage paperwork.
Having your ceremony performed by a registered solemnizer.
Having two witnesses aged 18 or older.
Completing the required in-person appointment with the Irish Registrar.

For overseas couples, the initial paperwork can generally be submitted remotely, so there's no need to make a separate trip to Ireland months before the wedding. An in-person meeting with the Registrar is still required before the ceremony.

Some couples prefer to complete their legal marriage at home and have a symbolic ceremony in Ireland instead. This is also a lovely option, particularly for couples who want greater flexibility.

Do you need to visit Ireland before your wedding?

No. Couples traveling from overseas can plan their Cliffs of Moher wedding without making a separate planning trip to Ireland.
