Dear Team

My wife and myself have once again decided to visit your beautiful country. We are in possession of a Swiss Covid certificate.
But, this was gained by having recovered from Covid this spring and then getting one dose of vaccination (Moderna) mid-september, which is absolutely fine in Switzerland (and, e.g., Germany)

Unfortunately, that case is not mentioned on the Irish immigration sites. It always says that the certrificate is fine. Next up it states, that two doses of vaccination are mandatory. So, what to believe now? Do you have any source we could rely on? Are we entitled to enter Ireland?

Thank you very much!
Tina & Martin

Hello Martin and Tina,

We are delighted to hear about your plans to visit our island! ☘️

To this date, the Irish government has not published information on entry requirements for travellers who have received only one dose after recovery. The information currently available on the government website and Citizens Information only describes the requirement of a full course (2 doses) of specific vaccines.

However, if you have recovered from Covid-19 in the past 180 days, no travel-related testing or quarantine will be required when entering the Republic of Ireland. You will need to present proof of your recovery showing specific details you can find on the government website here. If your Swiss Covid certificate does not show these details, you will be required to obtain evidence in written or electronic form in English (or an official translation into English) showing the necessary details. The EU Digital Covid Certificate (DCC) can function as such proof.

If your recovery was more than 180 days ago at the time of travel, you will still be able to travel to the Republic of Ireland, but will be required to provide a negative RT-PCR test result. This test must be taken within 72 hours before you arrive in Ireland. No further travel-related testing or quarantine will then be necessary. You can use the DCC as proof.

Please also note that indoor hospitality in the Republic of Ireland is currently only accessible to people who are fully vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 6 months.

These regulations are valid at the moment, but could change with short notice in light of the public health situation. This is why I recommend for you to always stay up to date with the Irish government website as well as our website. Should you plan to visit Northern Ireland, you can find the relevant regulations here.

I hope this helps! What's on your bucket list for your trip and can we help with any travel tips? 🧭
Don't hesitate to reply in German, should you prefer. 😊

Best wishes,
Rebecca ☀️

Thank you very much for the answers!

@Davide: Thanks for the link - our recovered / 1 shot - certificate does not show as valid.

@Rebecca: Thank you for the extensive answer. Our 180 days of recovery will be over on 4th October / 13th October respectively. We will arrive in Ireland on 2 October. So, entering Ireland will probably not be much of a problem.

Do you know how the people mentioned in this article can find a way to a normal way of life (as we will be in the same group): https://www.rte.ie/news/coronavirus/2021/0427/1212262-covid-ireland/
"Meanwhile, some people under 50 years of age will get just one vaccine dose of an mRNA vaccine, such as Pfizer or Moderna, and be considered fully-vaccinated, under the revised Government vaccination plans. It will apply to people who had laboratory confirmed Covid-19 in the previous six months and who are not immunocompromised. The Government said it is based on evidence regarding the immune response for those under 50, who had Covid-19 and that a second mRNA dose does not appear to increase the power of the immune response."

Thank you, Martin
