Hi there, just trying to plan some day trips. Just wondering if a few days in Galway would be better to see the Wild Atlantic Way, Connemara and the Cliffs? Would I get a better experience leaving from Galway or does it matter. Is Galway in itself worth visiting? I'm interested in the day tour to see the Cliffs and take a ferry to Inisheer and cruise under the cliffs as well. Any advice would be great!

Hi Jill.

It's great to hear you are coming to visit us.

The Wild Atlantic Way is Ireland’s 2,600km coastal driving route that stretches from the north of County Donegal, down the west coast to the southern tip of County Cork. How much of the WAW do you plan to travel?

Galway is a fantastic city and is about an hour and a half drive from The Cliffs of Moher, with Connemara being around an hour and fifteen minutes away in the other direction, so Galway could work out as a good base for traveling to these sites. If you are planning to see more of the WAW then you have the option of traveling north, or south, the coastal journey from Galway to Dingle is very popular and may be worth looking into. You can find out more about the Wild Atlantic Way here

Let me know if you have any other questions and I would be glad to answer.

Thanks,
Cathaoir

It depends on how much time you have.
Ideally you would need two days in Galway City alone. Even to get around a few pubs.
For Connemara you can do a quick tour of it in one day but you you would really need two or three days to see everything that's worth seeing.
You can do a day trip to The Cliffs of Moher and take in the world famous Burren also.
You can do Inisheer in one day but it's good to stay overnight and the other Aran Islands (inis Meán ans Inis Mór) are also well worth a visit.
To do the whole Wild Atlantic Way you should put two weeks aside.
