We are planning a trip next May with a group of friends all in their late 30’s. Looking for suggestions of potential places to base ourselves. We’re interested in primarily spending our time on the western coast and doing day trips. Ideal location would make it easy to go and explore during the day than be able to walk to pubs & restaurants in the evening. I was initially looking at Galway but have heard mixed things. We are renting cars so public transit isn’t a necessity. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Tricia,

How lovely to hear that you and your friends have plans to come and see us next May!

The Wild Atlantic Way is a great area to visit with plenty of things for you all to see and do.

Galway City is a popular location and like most cities has plenty of nightlife and entertainment to keep your evenings filled. Most things are within walking distance, with plenty of restaurants to choose from as well as pubs with music. 🎶 Some of the smaller towns and villages nearby might suit your needs as well, Doolin and Westport come to mind as locations that we find has lots of recommendations from visitors.

Being the midpoint on the west coast it gives you the options on going up towards Counties Mayo, Sligo, and Donegal. Then the option to go down for Counties Limerick, Kerry, and Cork to finish off the Way.

Are there any things or places, in particular, you are looking to visit during the day?

Martin
