Dear Sir / Madam

We are looking to do a six week tour in Ireland this year from late May through to middle of July. We will be travel in our Motorhome towing a small car behind the Motorhome. We will be travelling from Holyhead to Dublin and would like to start our trip with four or five days near Dublin to see the city first. We want to see as much of Ireland as we can and are interested in culture, coastal roads and scenery, house and gardens, etc”. We are looking for any information you can give us as to what to do and see during our time. We like to stay about five days in each place so we can explore the surrounding area.
Could you suggest what to see and do as we travel round Ireland please.

Kind regards

David Gudgin.

Hello David,

It’s great to hear that you are planning a summer getaway to Ireland!

I’d be happy to help offer a bit of inspiration to make your adventure even more special. I’d suggest starting by exploring our website, as there are plenty of helpful articles and trip ideas that can help fill out your itinerary.

As you will be starting in Dublin, there are plenty of places in and around the city to visit. Ireland's Ancient East has a host of historic places and wonderful coastal drives to make the beginning of your trip a memorable one. As you are in your motorhome, you may find our accommodation page section, where do you want to stay helpful. Just scroll down to the section and use the filters to find locations. I have already pre-selected Camping to get you started. Wild camping isn't encouraged on the island of Ireland, there is an article on the community that you may find helpful too.

For you, there are a few spots I’d suggest that are off the beaten path, this article about hidden gems between Dublin and Galway through Ireland's Hidden Heartlands. From one coast to the other, this list includes some truly unforgettable stops, including the Castletown House, an exploration of Ireland’s cultural history at Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park, and plenty of castles.

There are also plenty of scenic locations across Ireland, but this list of cliffs and coves along the Wild Atlantic Way is one of my favourites. It includes the Cliffs of Moher, some lovely spots in County Clare, and plenty more.

Is there anywhere that’s caught your interest so far? There’s still plenty more to share and I’d be delighted to chat more about your upcoming visit!

Warmly,

Martin

Hi David,

You will not be short of things to see & do during your 6 week tour of Ireland, the island has a wealth of experiences to offer.

If you travel the Wild Atlantic Way you can connect onto the Causeway Coastal Route (A2) at Derry/Londonderry.  Travelling eastwards this road brings you into the Causeway Coast and Glens region which is famed for its rugged coastline with miles of golden, sandy beaches and verdant glens. It stretches all the way to Belfast. There are quite a few attractions in the area including the Giant's Causeway a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dunluce Castle, Rathlin Island, Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge, Bushmills Distillery, the Glens of Antrim and Mussenden Temple.  There are boat trips, traditional music trails, a variety of food tours, outdoor artisan markets and an array of guided walking trips were you can learn about the landscape, history and culture.

There are plenty of caravan sites for motorhomes to park and all the aforementioned attractions are within easy travelling distance of each other.

To find out more about the area please take a look at our web site: https://www.visitcausewaycoastandglens.com

I do hope you enjoy your Ireland odyssey!

Hi David

In addition to the excellent recommendations provided already in this thread, a stop off at the Historic Walled City of Derry-Londonderry is a must when travelling throughout the island. The city also provides the perfect base for exploring nearby regions as we are located where the Wild Atlantic Way meets the Causeway Coastal Route. These provide some breathtaking views along the coast and I have doubt that you are already planning a trip to these regions.

The city is the home of Ireland's only completely intact historic Walled City, the Derry Girls, award-winning museums and some of the greatest outdoor festivals in the world! With world-class visitor experiences on our doorstep, and a cosmopolitan vibe all year round, there’s so much to do in our compact, walkable city. The city also boasts an impressive array of eateries and accommodation, further highlighting our suitability as a perfect base for exploring the nearby regions towards the coastlines.

For more information on what the city has to offer, please visit our website:
