Through ancestry sites & family bibles, I've narrowed it down to County Clare. I think. How many Harbins do you know & what do you know/ think of them?

Hi Brad,

It sounds like you have a great head start in looking for your ancestors here on the island of Ireland.

We always recommend the paper trail of birth, marriage, and death certificates as a first step but there is nothing as helpful as a family bible for dates and names and connections! 💚

There is some helpful resource information on this website page, please feel free to take a look. Also, a great place to ask a question would be the Ireland Family History page too.

Harbin wouldn't be the most popular surname, how did you come to the conclusion it was County Clare that would give you the answers?

We would love to hear more! ☘️

Hello Brad,

That is very interesting!

House of Names may be of interest to you. It seems the surname Harbin doesn't have known roots in Ireland but Herbertson certainly does! Likewise, the Irish Ancestor's Map is a wonderful tool that may direct you towards more answers. Based on a quick search, it looks like there were some documented households with the name Herbertson in County Down, Antrim, and Derry.

Of course, that isn't to say that your ancestors didn't live in County Clare or when they changed the spelling of their surname. Learning more about roots can be a bit of an art, after all.

How far back have you searched so far?

Hello Brad,

How impressive!

It is difficult to trace history back that far, which I believe I had mentioned in the other thread, but it sounds like you've put a lot of work into this adventure into the past.

I do hope you continue to make new discoveries! If you do, please feel free to stop by again and share. We'd all love to hear more!

~Rochelle
