Hi

We are planning on a 4 week trip, with the aim of seeing as much of this area as possible.

However, having just done 3600 miles in France over 8 weeks, we have learnt that we need to slow down and spend more time getting to know places in more depth to appreciate all that they have to offer.

If we were to do maybe half of the set route, does anyone have any recommendations on whether it would be better to do the top half or the bottom half please?  We may not get to visit Ireland again for a while, so we really want to be able to appreciate all of the variety and warm hospitality that this coast has to offer.

We love learning about new cultures, sightseeing, hiking, swimming, biking... and of course pubs!  We prefer smaller towns/villages to cities but are happy to spend a couple of days in the cities, if there are any great recommendations there.

Also, please can anyone advise if wild-camping legal in Ireland, as we may do a few days off of campsites if this is possible?

Thanks for your help,

Alyce

Hi Alyce,

It's great to hear that you are planning a trip to Ireland. You can find some great trip ideas on our website right here, that should help to inspire you ahead of your visit.

In particular, I would recommend that you check out the "All Around Ireland" trip idea. This is a very manageable 645-mile journey, quite a lot less than what you travelled in France.

On our website, 12 days is given as the recommended timeframe for completing this trip, but of course, it is easy to adapt it to your specific schedule. It would be possible to increase the length of your stay in some of the destinations and give you more time to relax and explore. That trip idea includes a little of everything that Ireland has to offer and you'll see both cities and the countryside.

In terms of wild camping, it is restricted in Ireland for safety and insurance reasons, but there are parks that will be happy to provide you with a permit for wild camping within their boundaries.

You can find additional information by contacting Ireland’s National Parks & Wildlife Service. It’s a truly amazing experience to explore some of our most beautiful areas in Glenveagh, Killarney and Wicklow National Parks - both day and night!

I hope this information will be helpful to you.

Regards,
Eoin
