Hello all!  Husband and I are going to Ireland Sept 25th to Oct 13th.  Hubby is originally from Cork, and was last in Ireland in 2003.
He wants us to NOT BOOK accommodation for the Ring of Kerry/Western Ireland portion of our journey and just book a different place each day.  He assures me there will ALWAYS be local B&Bs that aren't on the internet were we can stay one night.  I have never travelled really, so this makes me crazy nervous.  Is he "out of touch" with 2022 Ireland? Or am I being silly?
Also, I very much want to stay one night in a castle - but all the castles I find on line where we could book a night look like a Holiday Inn inside.  I want walls of stone! I know that's very North American of me, but that's the romance for me.  I can sleep in a plastered room in my home, you know?
Can anyone recommend a castle with rustic, stone interiors in the rooms that we can book for a night?
SO glad to find this forum!

Hello Ariana,

It's so exciting to hear that your trip is right around the corner!

About finding accommodations, my thought would be that during the main season, I'd advise booking accommodations in advance, as there is high demand. This isn't to say that there might not be B&B's available in the area to take last-minute guests, but in addition to just being a bit on the safer side, booking in advance would give you and your husband more time to enjoy your adventure without having to worry about where you'll be resting for the evening.

As for staying in a castle, I understand your view perfectly! There is something absolutely unforgettable about staying in a classic castle, complete with exposed stone. There are a number of options available to you to help make this dream come true. You could use our Accommodations Finder to find your dream castle, and as a bonus, it's also useful for finding B&B's. I've already sorted by castle stays, and you can look through to find your fantasy retreat.

There's also a helpful article right on our website all about castle accommodations. I'd recommend taking a look at The Black Castle, which has an old-world charm right out of a fantasy novel.

I do hope that this helps!

Kindly,
Rochelle

Many thanks Rochelle!
I will look through the list of castles - this is obviously the resource I should've started with!  I'm sure I'll find something with some stone ;)
Sounds like my hubby and I might have to compromise.  He will definitely not enjoy himself as much if he knows he needs to be at a particular place by a particular day - but I want that security!
Now if I can find an affordable car hire!
Getting excited!
Grateful to have found this forum~

Hi Ariana!

No problem at all, it is our pleasure to help with your travel planning and make everything go smoother! ☘️

You are more than welcome to check out our car hire page for some tips and information about driving on the island. We do understand that there has been a rise in car rental prices due to the devastation caused by the pandemic over the past two years and also the fact that they are dealing with other inflationary issues affecting their costs. However, we do hope that you are able to find something suitable! 🚗

If you need anything us, just drop us a note. 😊

Best,
Aimee
