Hi,

I work for a conservation charity, but we sometimes do work on Brittany Ferries on one of the ships that crosses to Ringaskiddy. If we're on time the ship should get in at 11am on a Saturday (the next time I'll be onboard, the Saturdays will be 17th and 24th September - the only other time I'll be onboard will be 8th October), and people who work on the ship should hopefully be able to get off at about 11:30am/11:45am. Crew then need to be back onboard the ferry at 3pm.

I was just wondering what the best way to get to Blarney Castle from the ferry port is? (Crew aren't allowed to bring cars on the ferry, so we can't drive.) And also if it would be possible to travel to the castle, do the castle and the Blarney Stone and travel back in the time that we have?

Apologies for my ignorance and thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it!
Lauren

Hi Lauren,

How nice that you get to be in Co. Cork from time to time.

After looking into it, it would take more than 90 minutes each way to reach Blarney Castle from Ringaskiddy by public transport (depending on the bus changes in Cork). This would only give you less than an hour to visit Blarney Castle and gardens. Therefore, a taxi or private hire seems a more viable option to make the most of your visit.

Perhaps you'd like to visit other heritages sites in Cork that take less time to reach by public transport?

Cheers,
Antoine

Hi Antoine,

Thank you so much for your reply! I really appreciate it.

I know; definitely very lucky! :)

We actually tried to get a taxi into Cork city last time we were there - the ladies at port called about 11 different companies before they found one that would take us to Cork from Ringaskiddy, he said he'd be there in 15 minutes, after 1hr 20 mins we called again and he said he'd be there, but he never turned up so we ended up not being able to go!

I'm a bit nervey of trying to get around now if I'm honest and I don't know any reliable taxi companies that would take us anywhere from Ringaskiddy - we tried asking around, but nobody really knew so I'm not quite sure what to do!

Thank you very much again!

Hi Lauren,

It's unfortunate that you weren't able to make it last time.

It may be beneficial to pre-book a taxi, chauffeur, or shuttle bus in advance so that you can be sure that you will have transport ready to go once you arrive. Here are some companies you may wish to contact: Cork Chauffeurs Ltd, Elite Motion Chauffeurs, and iDrive Group.

I hope this information will be helpful to you.

Regards,
Eoin
