Hi Sean,
Thanks for the question ahead of your visit in November! 🎃
There are several options for
public transport on the island of Ireland, please have a look at our page for some general information on the providers.
In the Republic of Ireland, Irish Rail runs the train service and has some helpful information on the
types of tickets they sell. The Trekker Four day and the Explorer ticket are only available to buy when you get here. There is also a
Visitor Leap card for travel in and around Dublin City that may be of interest and can be purchased online before you travel. Please check the delivery times to be sure you will receive it before you come. 🚆 Alternatively, they are readily available to purchase when you are here.
Bus Éireann is the main bus provider again in the Republic of Ireland, tickets for their services can be bought online to be sure of a seat and usually have an online discount built in. There is no bus pass ticket that can be used on all of the bus services here. 🚌
In Northern Ireland,
Translink operates both the national train and bus services so have a look at their website for possibilities in the area.
Transport for Ireland has a handy journey planner that you could find useful when trying to plan your itinerary. Select the to and from locations and see what providers can offer a service on the route. You can then use the links to the provider websites for tickets and online purchasing.
Have you a plan on where you would all like to see already or do you need a few
trip ideas? 🗺️
