Autorondreis Belfast - (London)derry - Belfast

Wij zijn van 8 t/m 16 juni 2023 in Noord Ierland en doen een rondreis met de auto. We begonnen de aankomst in Belfast en reizen dan gelijk door naar Larne voor 1 nacht . Dan 2 nachten in Bushmills , door voor 3 nachten Londonderry waarvan nog 2 nachten Enniskillen volgt voordat we afsluiten met 3 nachtenBelfast( zonder auto). Wie kan ons niet voorzien van tips wat we absoluut moeten doen of zien tijdens onze rondreis ? Wij zijn van het wandelen , houden van natuur en kastelen , bezoeken graag leuke dorpjes , whisky spreekt ons aan en zijn ook zeker naarde geschiedenis (oa Bloody Sunday). Bushmills en Scotts & Irish Whiskey zijn ons al bekend , maar misschien zijn er nog andere , kleinere , whiskystokerijen die we kunnen bezoeken . Veder ook zeer geïnteresseerd in Groundhoppen dus ook staan ​​we open voor tips mbt voetbalstadions op onze route.

Dat zijn fijne plannen! Ik kan zeker nog wat leuke suggesties met je delen voor je Noord-Ierland rondreis - waar je overigens al veel leuke bestemmingen in hebt gepland. 

Op onze website vind je een artikel met hoogtepunten van Noord-Ierland - inclusief ideeen voor wandelingen langs de Causeway Coast en volop dingen om te doen in Belfast en Derry~Londonderry. Ook Enniskillen is een prachtige bestemming. 

Een bijzondere manier om veet te leren over de geschiedenis van de Troubles is een Black Cab Tour in Belfast. Of misschien vind je een bezoek aan de Irish Football Heritage Association een leuk idee?

Een andere manier om de landschappen en kastelen van Noord-Ierland te ontdekken is door op zoek te gaan naar filmlocaties van Game of Thrones. Een aantal daarvan bevinden zich langs de Causeway Coast!

I am delighted that you plan to visit Northern Ireland in June 2023.  With there being so much to see, selecting your must-do sights and experiences makes sense, so that you achieve a balance between sight-seeing and just relaxing in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. You might need to come back for a second visit!  

As you journey along the Coast Road from Larne, you are entering the Glens of Antrim, area of outstanding natural beauty: scenic river valleys, with a small village nestled where river meets the sea.  Glenarm is a good stopping point. Glenarm Castle and Gardens–ancestral home of the Earls of Antrim https://glenarmcastle.com/ – is worth exploring.  Look out also for Steenson’s jewellery workshop and gallery https://www.thesteensons.com/our-stores. Glenariff Forest Park, inland from Waterfoot, has waterfalls, walks and views.

Ballycastle straddles both the Glens and the Causeway Coast. Fish and chips from Mortons at the harbour, or ice-cream, or a walk along the beach draws many people to it on a sunny evening. Rathlin Island is easily accessible by ferry from Ballycastle.  It is a beautiful island with miles of unspoilt nature and very little traffic.  There is a bird reserve there and at that time of the year you can see a vast number of sea birds including puffins, guillemots, razorbills and fulmars. Look out for seals and the Irish hare.

 After staying overnight in Bushmills, you can have a full day to visit The Giant’s Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (pre-booking recommended/required; see websites) and Dunluce Castle. The oldest licensed whiskey distillery in the world is on your doorstep and tours and tasting can be booked at the Bushmills Distillery.

Portstewart, with the sun setting in the west, is very pleasant in the evening. Be sure to find time to walk along a beautiful, sandy beach.
