If you really want to immerse yourself in Ireland’s beautiful landscapes, you should try some of the walks and trail runs that take place throughout the year.
Wander Wild kicks off in Killarney, County Kerry, and is a weekend packed with outdoor activities. From refreshing sunrise swims, to ascending to Ireland’s highest peak at Carrauntoohil, there’ll be something for every type of adventurer.
In May, make your way up to
Donegal for the
Seven Sisters trail running event. It is the island’s premier mountain running event. But be mindful, the 30km and 50km trails are tough – this is for experienced runners!
If you’d like another trail run, the
Wicklow Eco Trail is a great one. It has different courses ranging from 19km to 80km, and they take in epic views of
Wicklow spots like the picturesque Lough Tay, and the Sugarloaf Mountain. As with the Seven Sisters trail, these runs are intense, so make sure to train and prepare if you’d like to give it a go!
Quest Lough Derg is an intense race around some of the most iconic waterways in the island of Ireland. You can jog along the banks of the Shannon, and take to the kayak along the majestic waters of Lough Derg. The three routes will pass through lovely villages, and glorious sprawling forests. If you fancy a challenge, this is a great way to take in the sights of
County Donegal!
For something more serene, check out
Mayo’s Dark Sky Festival in November. For three days, marvel at the cosmic beauty of Mayo’s unspoiled night skies, while enjoying world class speakers in a friendly and chilled out atmosphere. If you want to unplug, and relax, this will be the perfect trip.
For a more gentle journey, take on the
Boyne Valley Trail. These walks take in the unique beauty and culture of the area. They host themed events based on the seasons and the time of the year, so if you want an immersive, restorative walking experience, put this one on your bucket list.
