Hi All - first time posting here. Beginning to plan a trip for April 2023. Dates and duration all flexible - the headline 12 day trip around Ireland looks idyllic - but is that largely planned around changing accommodation each day? Or a motorhome trip?

In fact many of the suggested trips on Ireland.com move you from one place, to the next on day 2, the next on day 3 - and so on - all suggesting we'd need a new place to stay each night which would be a bit much I think?

We have a large family car - 2 adults - 2 kids - 1 dog...  (yeah that makes it trickier) And was looking at maybe coming over in the car - staying in 2 or 3 locations - but not 12  ;-)

Wondered if anyone had some suggestions on a condensed tour / must see places.  Considering (again very early days) a stop up North (Donegal area maybe) then move down to see something of western peninsula's and then east to Dublin.

We are a couple of hours or so from Holyhead. Maybe 3 to Stranraer so ferry either end would be fine. Would appreciate  a little steer to get be started.  Thanks

Hi Jim and welcome!

How nice that you are planning a family trip this spring!

The trip ideas on Ireland.com are for inspiration purposes, you could definitely base yourself in 3 or 4 places during your stay and take day trips instead of following the itineraries day by day. For a laidback, yet condensed tour of Ireland, take for instance these trip ideas in the North West, in the Southern Peninsulas or in Ireland's Ancient East. You'd have to drive a bit more but with the added convenience of keeping the same accommodation for a few days. If you are after the "must-sees", here are some of the most visited places on the island.

Since you travel with your kids, we just happen to have family activities suggestions on another thread. The B&B Ireland website has the option to select pet-friendly listings as well (if you filter by categories)

Let us know how your plans are coming along!

Cheers,
Antoine
