I will be arriving at the Dublin airport the Friday of the parade and am renting a car for travel but have heard that travel and parking is quite the challenge around Dublin at this time due to the parade and festivities. My question for anyone is, what would be the best way to get from the airport to the parade route downtown and then back to the airport after the parade? Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello Mike,

How wonderful to hear that you will be over to celebrate St Patrick's Day with us!

It will indeed be a busy day in and around Dublin City and there will be road closures during the parade itself along the parade route. Our friends at the St Patrick's Festival have a website that may be of help with some specific information.

There are several alternatives to renting a car just to get to the parade and back. Dublin Airport has a page on getting to and from the airport that might help with other options. There are taxis outside of arrivals along with bus services that will take you in and out of the city.

Parking will be in demand so you can always book this ahead. Parkopedia has a handy website on the car parks in the city with links to the car park suppliers to enable booking.

Are you flying in and out on the same day?

Martin,

I will be there for a little bit. Getting back to the airport that day is to pick up a car.

OMG! It's verry hard to find a best route and car parks @ the Dublin area on 17/03.
It's a better idee to charing seats or taking public transport.
(or Park & Ride with the Luàs tramway https://luas.ie/tallaght.html )
(P+R @ Malahide/Portmarnock/ or better @ Howt Junction with more DART train services)

P+R parking and public transportation are definitely the way to go on March 17, Jan! Thank you so much for the tips and links, I'm sure Mike will appreciate.

Sounds like you have celebrated St Patrick's day with us before?

Groet,
Antoine

Not by the Dub's... ,
only when it's on fri/sat/sun
5 day's Shorbreaks/Citytrips

2013 @ Cork (DUB>ORK by train and back from ORK with the 'Greenbird' to Brussels)
2017 @ Belfast (just flying on Belfast George Best City Airport en with NIR to the city centre)
2018 @ Galway https://gobus.ie/
2019 @ Kilkenny https://jjkavanagh.ie/
2023 once again @ the Rebel City https://gobus.ie/
(When you thinging sometimes... Your'e born on the wrong place of the Channel...)
We have free tickets for the CIE, But it's more easy traveling by the direct Airport Fast bus services...
It's just only a few Euro's more as the Airportbus link to Dublin City an we don't need changing of transport.

Idees for the future. Celebration Halloween or St. Bridgid's.
Gr,
Jan(tje)

How exciting to hear you are coming back to Cork for this year's celebration, Jantje!

Thank you for sharing the operators you travelled with and a little about your itinerary in the past, I'm sure it will be helpful for people planning their trips to these cities.
I think you would enjoy visiting our green island during the Halloween festive period. :) There are so many activities and festivals all across the country during that time of the year, not to mention the haunted places to visit which will really get you into the Halloween spirit.

Thanks for reminding me of St Brigid, Jan!
She sure is a great source for stories and legends about Ireland.

As ever,
Megan
