My adult daughter & I are going to Ireland 5/11-25 . Would love input on car rental, off the beaten path/non tourist must do & see & experience, small, quaint places to see/stay. Planning on Dublin Day 1, tour N Ireland day 2 and then drive
Counterclockwise on the coast, returning to Dublin 5/23pm

Hi Margaret,

It sounds like a wonderful mother-daughter road trip in the making for your time with us in May!

There is some information on our website about car rental and driving on the island of Ireland that you may wish to take a look at. On thing to ensure is that you have a full license, credit card, and let the provider know that you intend to travel across the border as this is a legal requirement for insurance purposes.

Dublin is a lovely city to start your time with us, plenty to see and do for the day in the city. The trip to Belfast is about a 2 hour drive but there are places to stop off on the way, such as Carlingford before you cross into Northern Ireland.

The Causeway Coastal Route has again plenty to see as you travel westwards. Most of the places are well known to our visitors but I would suggest a stop in Whitehead to see the Railway Museum or just a photo of the colorful houses on the front!

The coastal drive is one of the most beautiful and #4 on our coastal drives article.

There is a trip ideas section that has plenty of suggestions including a 12 days route around the coast. Practically every town, village, or city you visit has something to stop and look at from a few standing stones to crosses and church/castle ruins.

For accommodation, there is a wealth of B&Bs through to hotels to stay in which can be found on our accommodation page. Just scroll down to the where do you want to stay section and use the filters to refine your search.

Hopefully, this will give you some inspiration and our fellow members may be able to add to this too. 💚
