Coming from Belgium, we will arrive by boat in Rosslare in August and then travel directly to Belfast by car to stay there for 3 days and then come back to Ireland. Do we need an EU passport to cross the border or is a simple Belgian ID-card sufficient?

Thank you for your answer!

Hey David,

How nice that you are coming over this summer!

Not to worry, your Belgian ID card is sufficient to visit Belfast and Northern Ireland as long as you arrive and leave the island through the Republic of Ireland (which you'll do by arriving and leaving from Rosslare Harbour). We have a few more useful details on travel documents right here.

Have you figured out your road-trip itinerary just yet and is it your first time in Ireland?

Groet,
Antoine

Hi David,

Great to hear that you are planning three days in Belfast during August.  If you have time when you are there, you might consider travelling north on the A2 Coastal Route to the Causeway Coast and Glens.  The scenic drive hugs the coastline and the views are varied and beautiful.  To give you some idea of what the region has to offer, please take a look at our website: https://www.visitcausewaycoastandglens.com

Hope you enjoy planning your trip to Ireland!
Anne
