Planning ahead for your trip to the island of Ireland? We like your style! The possibilities really are endless when it comes to taking a road trip around the island of Ireland, so here are a few trip ideas we’ve come up with to get you started. Feel free to take inspiration and tailor these trips to suit your preferences.
Our
first trip idea explores the part of
Ireland’s Ancient East that is right on
Dublin’s doorstep. Head on this three-day road trip through counties
Wicklow, Carlow, Laois, Tipperary, Kildare and
Meath, and within these counties, you’ll get to visit beautiful and historic sites. Check out Glendalough with its 6th century monastery and walking trails through
Wicklow Mountains National Park; the 19th century
Duckett’s Grove, which is said to still be haunted; and
Trim Castle with its Norman heritage.
Trip idea number two takes us to
Northern Ireland where luxury awaits. This trip starts in Belfast and factors in all the must-see sites in the area, such as the
Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, the
Giant’s Causeway and
Mussenden Temple, with lots of luxurious experience on the side. You’ll find yourself heading for pre-dinner drinks at the 5-star
Merchant’s Hotel, tasting a fabulous seasonal menu at Michelin-starred
OX Belfast, and laying your head to rest in the most comfortable of places including
The Salthouse luxury eco-hotel in
County Antrim or
Crom Castle in County Fermanagh.
Our
third trip idea allows you to discover the wonders of
Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands. Amongst natural landscapes, canals and quirky towns, you can explore 11 unique counties in just five days!
County Cavan will reveal the site of the first Neolithic settlers; the largest Iron Age road in Europe will be found in
County Longford and in
County Westmeath, you can see a settlement site dating back thousands of years.
May this
fourth trip idea be with you… This adventure along the
Wild Atlantic Way is Star Wars-themed and takes you to spots along the west of the island of Ireland where parts of these movies were filmed. The beehive huts have been removed from Sybil Head in
County Kerry, and there’s no sign of stormtroopers on Malin Head in
County Donegal, but travelling to these iconic sites still makes you feel like you’re part of the action!
