I am looking to visit Ireland, maybe Kerry or Beara, for some good walking as well as visiting sites, pubs etc. However, when looking at walking route options I find 'no dogs' listed on most of them. It does seem that Ireland is quite dog unfriendly and the last think I want to do is book accommodation and then find out we can't go anywhere.

All advice welcome even if it is go to another country!

Hi Phil,

It's good to hear that you are interested in visiting Ireland. There are lots of fun things to see and do in County Kerry and the Southern Peninsulas. Towns like Killarney and Dingle, in particular, are great when it comes to pubs and enjoying a nice atmosphere.

Ireland is generally dog-friendly. There are lots of dog-friendly trails on the island, including many in the south-western corner. As an example, this Owengarriff to Torc Mountain trail in Killarney National Park is dog-friendly.

Regards,
Eoin

That's great that you are planning a trip with your four-legged friend, Phil!

I would add that B&B Ireland lets you filter by "Pet Friendly", if you are concerned about dog friendly accommodation.

For hiking trails in the south west, the Sport Ireland website often states whether dogs are allowed or not on the trail. That should help you plan ahead of time.

Let us know the trails you end up choosing in County Kerry 😊

Cheers,
Antoine

Hi Antoine
Thanks for your reply. I have looked on Sport Ireland and a lot do say no dogs which is putting me off so I am now looking to go elsewhere (Scotland). However, all is not lost as I will return for a longer visit when its not so critical as I will have more time.
Regards
Phil
