Hello Paola!
Thank you for joining our Community forum!
Your plan to explore the west coast of
Ireland by bike sounds really amazing! I'll do my best to provide you with the information you need to plan this adventure and point you in the right direction so that you can evaluate and choose among the different available options!
Point by point:
1) The island of Ireland is a perfect destination for bike adventurers and bike rental shops are spread all over the island. If you arrive in Dublin, it's probably a good idea to reach the starting point of your bicycle route
by bus and rent the bicycle there. To find a flight to Ireland, you can use our
search page here. 2) The Shannon Airport is the closest airport to the Wild Atlantic Way, and the Ireland West Airport in Knock would be also a great option. However if you can't find a direct flight from your city to these airports, any of the airports scattered around the country would be fine. It also depends on the part of the Wild Atlantic Way you're interested in exploring. Take a look at this article for some great suggestions about
traveling the WAW by bike.3) Choosing only a part of the Wild Atlantic Way is indeed a good idea, so that you can enjoy the landscapes, villages and attractions with plenty of time.
This section of our website may help you decide which one is the best for you. Here you can find some
charming villages to visit along the route. During the month of August the car route could be a bit busy, so it's probably a good idea to check and see if it's convenient to follow the greenways, and the
Great Western Greenway is for sure a great option.
4) As for the accommodation, it won't be difficult to find
B&Bs and campsites where to spend the night, although we suggest that you book in advance, if possible.
The shared articles contains a lot of useful information to start planning the adventure. I suggest that you take a look at them and let us know if there is anything else you need to know. Also, let us know what part of the WAW you eventually decide to explore, so that we can help with more specific information, as local bike rental shops, accommodation, attractions and so on.
Ricorda che puoi sciverci anche in italiano se lo preferisci! Ci risentiamo presto!
Buona giornata,
